very knowledgeable makes it easy to understand nice guy
Bill was a great teacher and really made it easy to understand backflows. Would reccomended pipeline training institute for backflow certification!
Pipeline Training Institute trains the next generation of master plumbers. We certify and recertify plumbers through backflow and cross-connection courses, and we prepare plumbers for their journeyman and master plumber exams through group and private training.
Pipeline Training Institute in Sykesville is a school for plumbers, not a repair crew. The first thing to check is which certification you need. The institute says it runs backflow and cross-connection courses and prepares plumbers for journeyman and master exams, in groups or one on one.
Its website lists a backflow recertification course at $275 per person, with 4 hours of classroom instruction and 4 hours of hands-on work. The first-time backflow certification costs $500 per person. It pairs 15 hours of instruction with 12 hours of hands-on training and 3 hours of home study.
Both courses take a $40 deposit to register, and the school says it provides the testing equipment. It also lists a 2 pound gas certification at $200, which it describes as required for Baltimore County journey and master plumber and gasfitter licenses. Virginia exam prep runs over Zoom, and a company can host a class at its own site with at least 5 students.
The school keeps 8 am to 8 pm hours Monday through Saturday, plus a three-hour Sunday evening window. In Sykesville, 54% of homes heat with electricity, per the American Community Survey (2024). NOAA normals for 1991 to 2020 put the town's average temperature at 53.6°F, with a mean high of 63.4°F and a mean low of 43.9°F.
The school holds a 5.0 rating from 22 reviews. Students mention backflow recertification classes most often. They praise an instructor who explains the devices clearly and ties them to conditions found in the field, and a few call the price fair.
Founder Bill Sompayrac states he is a Registered Master Plumber and Gasfitter.
The school reports that DC Water and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission recognize its Maryland backflow certification.
